The Bitter Pill is an upcoming psychological thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh, and written by Scott Z. Burns. The film stars Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Open Road Films announced that the release date for The Bitter Pill will be February 8, 2013. The Bitter Pill, previously titled The Side Effects, will be directed by Steven Soderbergh and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Gregory Jacobs and Scott Z. Burns who also worked on the screenplay. In January 2012, it was reported the film will be released by Open Road Films and produced by Annapurna Pictures. A few weeks later, Annapurna Pictures pulled out from the project resulting in Endgame Entertainment to finance the project. Filming started on April 5, 2012 in New York City. It expected to be released in early 2013. The first pictures of the set surfaced on April 10, 2012. Originally, Blake Lively was first cast for the lead role. However, it was later reported Rooney Mara would replace her. Catherine Zeta-Jones also landed the role of Dr. Erica Siebert. This will be the third collaboration between Soderberg and the actress.
