Magic Mike is an upcoming comedy film directed by Steven Soderbergh starring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Cody Horn, Joe Manganiello, and Matt Bomer in leading roles. Warner Bros. has scheduled the film for release on June 29, 2012, in the US. Veteran stripper Magic Mike (Tatum) teaches a novice (Pettyfer) about the occupation while seeking a lifestyle outside the world of stripping with the help of his protégé's sister (Horn). They work at the club Xquisite, which is owned by the former stripper Dallas (McConaughey). In 2010, Tatum told an Australian newspaper that he would like to make a movie about his experiences as a stripper, saying, "I've already got the director picked out. I'd like Nicolas Refn, who did the movie Bronson, to do it because he's insane for it." Magic Mike is directed by Steven Soderbergh based on a screenplay by Reid Carolin, who is also one of the film's producers. The film stars Channing Tatum, and the screenplay is in part based on Tatum's experiences as a stripper in Tampa, Florida, when he was 19 years old.
