The film was written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, and produced by Universal Studios. It made over $25.5 million worldwide. The film is about a slacker (Billy Madison) who must go back to school in order to take over his father's company. The comedy also features Chris Farley and Steve Buscemi with uncredited appearances. Billy Madison (Adam Sandler), a 27-year-old heir to a wealthy father, has spent his entire life reaping the benefits of his family's hotel chain, Madison Hotels, a Fortune 500 company. He spends his days drinking with best friends, Jack (Mark Beltzman) and Frank (Norm Macdonald), and creating disasters across his father's estate. One day, Billy ruins a dinner meeting between his father, Brian (Darren McGavin), and his associates by behaving obnoxiously after being instigated by Eric Gordon (Bradley Whitford), Brian's executive vice president. This prompts Brian to lose any remaining faith in Billy, as he chooses the conniving Eric to become the next CEO of the company.

Review

Yet another forgettable and asinine entry into the Adam Sandler oeuvre, Billy Madison is ridiculous and stupid yet, ashamedly, made me laugh from time to time. The story involves a lazy rich kid who decides to repeat grades 1-12 to prove himself as worthy of taking over a major hotel chain (yeah, that'll prove it!) from his father. The gags are straight out of Sandler's usual box of toys. He spends most of the film doing his faux-castrato whine. Even the lunch lady makes an appearance. That doesn't mean you should make one too, though.
