The Adjuster is a 1991 Canadian drama film directed by Atom Egoyan. It premiered at the New York Film Festival. The Adjuster tells the story of an insurance adjuster who becomes intimate with his clients. The adjuster initially appears to want to help his clients but as the movie unfolds it is clear that the situation is more complex. He seems to be somehow a victim of his own situation.
He’s an insurance adjuster willing to do anything to make his clients feel better — even if that means sleeping with them.
She’s an adult movie censor that surreptitiously videotapes the screenings so she can get off to them after hours.
Together they’re one of the most messed up families to grace the work of Atom Egoyan in one of his most cryptic and entertwining tales. Not his greatest work, but very worthwhile for those willing to invest the time and patience.
