Ghost is a 1990 American romantic fantasy film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. It was written by Bruce Joel Rubin and directed by Jerry Zucker. The film was a financial and critical success, and was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Score and Best Film Editing. It won the awards for Best Supporting Actress for Goldberg and Best Original Screenplay. Goldberg was particularly praised: she also won the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Saturn Awards in addition to the Oscar. Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) is a New York banker, living happily with his girlfriend and potter Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) in their shared apartment. At his bank, Sam discovers some discrepancies with several accounts and highlights them to his friend and coworker, Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn), who promises he will investigate the matter. That night, Sam and Molly's apartment is broken into by Willie Lopez (Rick Aviles). In the struggle, Willie kills Sam, leaving Molly devastated. Sam regains consciousness and quickly discovers he is a ghost, but cannot find a way to let Molly know of his existence.
