Yes!
Not many liked it at first, some still don't understand it. However it combined what we think we know about the ancient Egyptians and the peoples of the Mediterranean from archaeologist conceptions, and the beliefs of from that time-line and combined them with modern technology of the 'now and future' as we conceive what it might be.
Then Star Gate SG-1 followed on TV for 10 years plus in various forms off that first concept idea.
This movie started it all, told a story and it made money! What more could you ask for?
Unfortunately I was working on the road for most of that time and hotels/ motels didn't carry Sci-Fi and I missed a lot, but caught most of the re-runs and since I am retired now, I'll never be able to buy the 10 year box set of Star Gate SG-1.
